Radio and TV stations are required by the Federal Communications Commission to set aside a certain amount of their air time for public service announcements. A PSA is often referred to as an unpaid advertisement for an organization, usually a government entity or non-profit organization. The term "PSA" is short for public service announcement. Finally, we provide you a list of resources that we used when writing this handbook, which you can consult to learn more about this topic. The appendices provide you with sources for audio and video files you can use, and a sample media release form that you can use to make sure you have permission to use the materials, pictures, and voices that are a part of your PSA. The fourth chapter is devoted to how to get your PSA distributed. We describe how to create an audio PSA for radio in the second chapter, and then, in the third chapter, we describe how to create video PSAs for TV or online distribution.
